The subject of gambling is difficult since it isn't really ever
mentioned in the Bible. The best points I think one can make is to point to it's bad
effects and relationships. It is often tied with drinking and organized crime. It too
often takes from the ones who can least afford it and who can't seem to stop because of
the hope of some great reward.
It goes against the grain of working for what you have (Ephesians
4:28). Wherever gambling has gone, crime has increased along with it. Does it make any
sense to raise money for schools by gambling when it will invariably put those same kids
in greater danger?
These are, I think about the best points which can be made.
Sometimes in a zeal to stop it, religious people, including those in the church, have gone
further than the Bible. I oppose gambling, but I don't want to force a Scripture to say
what it really wasn't saying.
I hope this helps.
